Xtinib-gefitinib
Xtinib contains gefitinib and belongs to a class of anti-cancer medications called epidermal growth factor receptor (egfr) tyrosine kinase inhibitors.

Indication
Xtinib is used for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer.

Mechanism of Action
Xtinib works by blocking the action of a certain naturally occurring substance that multiplies the growth of cancer cells. This helps slow or stop the spread of cancer cells.

Supplied as
Xtinib is available as 250mg tablets.

Dosage
Xtinib is usually given once a day with or without food.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose associated with xtinib may include diarrhea and rash.

Precautions & warnings
  • Xtinib should not be taken without consulting your doctor if you have or have ever had pulmonary fibrosis (scarring of the lungs), or liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not take xtinib if you are allergic to it or to any ingredient in xtinib.
  • kindly notify your doctor immediately if you experience allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), lung problems, liver problems, eye problems, severe nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or diarrhea during treatment with xtinib.
  • Do not take xtinib without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant. Discuss with your doctor the appropriate use of birth control during treatment with xtinib. It is not known whether xtinib passes into breast milk.
Drug Interactions
The following drugs may interact with xtinib:
  • Cimetidine, ranitidine, esomeprazole, lansoprazole, omeprazole
  • Rifampin or phenytoin
  • Ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, ritonavir, nelfinavir, indinavir, nefazodone
  • The blood-thinning effects of warfarin may be increased by xtinib and hence, the risk of bleeding may increase
Side effects
The side effects associated with xtinib are dry skin, itching, rash, acne, mouth sores, weight loss, cough, or fever; diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, eye pain, redness, or irritation, change in vision, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, throat, hands, arms, feet, ankles or lower legs etc.

Note: Xtinib is a prescription drug and should be used under proper medical guidance and advice. Do not share the medicine with others, since they may be suffering from a problem that is not effectively treated by this drug.
